We believe planting trees can help save the world.

Our Arbor Month campaign was spurred on and inspired by international research that “highlights global tree restoration as our most effective climate change solution to date” [The global tree restoration potential].

It is clear that tree planting has the potential to be one of the most efficient solutions to climate change.

However, context is key.

Tree planting is not the most appropriate intervention for all biomes – and careful research and consideration should be given before attempting a forest restoration project.

At Greenpop we plant trees in existing, degraded forest ecosystems – across Sub-Saharan Africa.

We believe in planting trees where it is contextually relevant.

The trees raised in September will be planted in 2020 as part of our on-going forest restoration programme, Forests for Life.

Forests for Life aims to plant 500,000 trees to restore degraded forest areas, increase biodiversity, and expand ecosystem services across Sub-Saharan Africa by 2025.

As a South African organisation, Greenpop is acutely aware of the complex challenges associated with indigenous forest management in Sub-Saharan Africa. As such, we design our projects with a pro-community stance which recognises the local threats to reforestation success and incorporates solutions that benefit both forests and local communities.

To implement this work, Greenpop works with passionate and effective, local, small-scale conservation and sustainable development organisations across Sub-Saharan Africa.
