COLLABORATIVE REFORESTATION PROJECTS
In order to further our reforestation efforts, Greenpop provides funding and support for external individuals and organisations who run small-scale reforestation projects.
Udzungwa Forest Project
In 2015 Greenpop began a collaboration with the Udzungwa Forest Project focused on restoring and protecting a rare and endangered pocket of forest in Tanzania. Our support for the project allows for the planting of trees and the ongoing monitoring of these trees by a recently employed forestry officer who works closely with the project in planting, managing and maintaining the trees into the future.
Wilderness Reforestation Project
In 2013, Greenpop supported a local landowner in Wilderness to plant 1000 indigenous trees to reforest and restore an important biodiversity corridor in the area. The trees have been doing very well ever since and currently have an 80% survival rate. The structure of the forest has begun to change somewhat with many pioneer species dying, providing high nutrient organic matter for the second generation of planted trees to grow.
