Official Supporting Partner of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

Greenpop has been selected to be an official Supporting Partner of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

The primary aim of the Decade, which runs from 2021 – 2030, is to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems worldwide. In addition the Decade aims to inspire and support organisations, communities and individuals to collaborate and develop the appropriate skill sets for catalysing and successfully implementing restoration initiatives across the world.

Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (UN Decade) is a rallying call for the protection and revival of ecosystems all around the world, for the benefit of people and nature.

As a Supporting Partner, Greenpop will be assisting with the promotion of the Decade’s key activities and priorities, as well as reporting our restoration KPI’s where it supports the goals of the Decade.

“Ecosystems support all life on earth. The healthier our ecosystems are, the healthier the planet and its people.”

Ecosystem restoration means assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as well as conserving the ecosystems that are still intact.

All kinds of natural as well as human-made ecosystems can be restored, including forests, farmlands, cities, wetlands and oceans. Healthier ecosystems, with richer biodiversity, yield greater benefits for the planet and its people. These include, among many others, more fertile soils, bigger yields of timber and fish, and larger stores of greenhouse gases.

Restoring ecosystems, large and small, protects and improves not only our planet but also the livelihoods of billions of people who depend on them.

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5 to raise awareness and generate action on a pressing environmental issue. The Day offers an opportunity to reflect on accomplishments and renew our resolve in overcoming the environmental challenges facing the world today.

Held annually since 1974, World Environment Day is a vital platform for promoting progress on the environmental dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Join us for an exciting line-up of events to celebrate World Environment Day, and officially launch the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.

In honour of World Environment Day, and the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, the United Nations Environment Programme has published a practical guide to ecosystem restoration. The Ecosystem Restoration Playbook provides an introduction to the range of actions that can slow and halt the degradation of ecosystems and foster their recovery.
