Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some common questions about Greenpop.
How much does it cost to sponsor a tree?
It costs R120 ($10) to sponsor 1 tree to be planted.
Can I choose where my trees are planted?
Our team uses careful discretion in choosing the sites where we plant trees so, unfortunately, we cannot accept requests for trees to be planted in specific locations. We ask that you trust our judgment in determining where your funds go and promise that we will ensure they go towards projects for communities that really need them.
Can I only donate funds for trees?
Trees are how we started and very central to what we do, but we strongly believe in a holistic approach and also look for funding for our education and food growing programmes.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. Greenpop Foundation is a non-profit (NPO) and public benefit organisation (PBO) that can issue a Section 18A certificate at the end of the tax year to be used
Will every sponsor get a tree certificate?
After your fundraising project is complete we will send one certificate to you with the GPS coordinates of the location where we planted ‘your trees’. You can share this certificate with your donors.
Can I receive cash or electronic bank transfer donations?
All donations must go through GivenGain. Therefore, your donors can support your project by donating funds via their credit card or electronic bank transfer. If you decide to sell lemonade or your granny gives you a crisp R100 note for your birthday, you can add this cash to your GivenGain profile by donating to your own campaign.
I have 80 real physical trees in my garden. Can I donate them to Greenpop and get the full Trees for Fees discount?
Unfortunately not. We try to run our project in the most sustainable way possible so we buy all of our trees which we plant from local nurseries in and around our projects to avoid transportation and support the local economy.
